Every Thursday-

Baixo Gávea and Rio Scenarium

On Marquês de São Vicente or right off of Praça do Jokei, there is a collection of bars where people hang out socializing and drinking beers. At the bar Baixo Gávea you can find cheap drinks, and there are always people selling on the street, one for three, or two for five. It doesn’t go too late like many social events in Rio, but it’s something to count on every Thursday. And if you are just there to socialize, it’s free!

Although the downside is often there is no music.. so if music is what you are after… look into more information about: Rio Scenarium .  It’s said to be one of the top 10 best bars in the world… I think that alone makes it worth checkin out.  It’s set in Lapa and the website is:

Every Friday-

Street party in Lapa, São Cristovão

While Lapa and São Cristovão have things going on Friday and Saturday, I’d say Lapa Friday and São Cristovão Saturday.

Everyone knows about Lapa, I can’t say anything anyone else won’t tell you. Street samba, street vendors, very strong Caipirinhas, clubs playing a combo of funk, and american/european pop music and lots and lots of people! Word of advice, don’t bring anything too valuable. With such a great crowd it’s easy for little ones to come in and grab things without being noticed. Just be cool, use your head, have a great time.

Every Saturday-

São Cristovão

Feira de São Cristóvão – Centro Luiz Gonzaga de Tradições Nordestinas or The Feira dos Paraíbas is in São Cristovão. You can take a bus or van to get there and it is R$2 to enter. It’s a huge market where you can find art, music, FOOD and Forró music and dancing. There is live music and dance floors with DJs playing Forró everywhere. It’s a great place to go and have some dinner, dance, shop, leave early and go somewhere else (Lapa), or stay all night. Like always use the buddy system
